Experimental analysis of wave-induced vertical bending moment in steep regular waves

Recent studies have benchmarked the prediction of wave vertical bending moment (VBM) ships in waves and found significant scatter among numerical codes. A long series tests with segmented hulls been reported literature over past 70 years to assess moment. However, alongside improvement tools modeling ships’ internal loads, scientific community still requires accurate experimental data measured steep (ratio height H wavelength ? , H/ = 0.1) where ship behavior loads are modified by non-linearities. Thus, order validate simulation codes, establish criteria requirements that make safer sail severe sea conditions, some experiments were carried out 50 m × 30 5 hydrodynamic ocean engineering tank Ecole Centrale Nantes. 1/65th scaled model a 6750-TEU containership was used.
